Melissa Etheridge: “Hardest Part” of Divorce is Kids

Melissa Etheridge says the most difficult part of her recent split from longtime partner Tammy Lynn was telling her children.

"That's the hardest part, is kids," the singer told Access Hollywood backstage at "Dancing with the Stars" on Tuesday, where Melissa was on hand to perform her new song "Fearless Love."

"I know that my children just want me to be happy," she continued. "I think that I am a success at my life if can be happy, so I think they support that."

Melissa and Tammy Lynn – formerly Tammy Lynn Michaels – had twins, son Miller Steven and daughter Johnnie Rose, together in 2006. She also has two other children, Bailey, 13, and Beckett, 11, with her former partner, Julie Cypher.

The singer told Access that ending their relationship after almost nine years together took time.

"The process that Tammy and I went through took awhile," she explained. "Those things just don't come to an end instantly."
