John Travolta Spreads Cash, Goodwill in South Africa

While in South Africa for the World Cup, Travolta hung out with kids from the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund

Just because John Travolta is soaking up World Cup fever in South Africa doesn’t mean he can’t play a humanitarian while on the road.

On Saturday, the actor and wife Kelly Preston donated $10,000 to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund during their visit to that nation, The Associated Press reported. The couple and their daughter Ella spent time with the children whom the foundation has helped.

"Children keep you humble," Travolta said. "Children keep you grounded."

According to the report, the kids threw the Travoltas a drum concert and belted out a poem “Eyes in the sky, foot in the ground." The “Saturday Night Fever” icon even did some dancing with the children.

This past Friday, Travolta visited the Australian World Cup team at a resort lodge 25 miles west of Johannesburg. He is an ambassador for Australia’s airline Qantas, which is one the team’s sponsors.

“You just have to look at how the guys were excited to get photos with him,” said the team’s goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who also mentioned that the actor wished the team well.

In May, Travolta announced on his Web site that he and Kelly are expecting a baby.
