Britney Spears Will Do “Glee,” Says Producer

Star will appear on episode devoted to her career

The latest coup for "Glee" is word of a Britney Spears cameo next season.

The hit show's creator, Ryan Murphy, told Ryan Seacrest the news on Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show. He said the pop star's turn will have her in a cameo on an episode showcasing her hits.

The episode "is so reverential about her, and so kind, and it's about her music and it's not about her personal life, and I think Britney Spears is pop culture, and I think she's been through a lot and I want to do something that sort of says, 'Thank You' for what you've done," Murphy said. "We're handling Britney with sort-of kids gloves. I think Britney, 100 percent, is going to be on the episode, which is exciting."

Murphy also divulged that many of the Britney Spears numbers the cast will perform will actually be hallucinations while under anesthesia at the dentist, played by John Stamos. "They have fantasies of how they can be like her," Murphy said.

Murphy also confirmed that Carol Burnett will appear on the show, after a Facebook campaign successfully lobbied for it. He said he's also been in talks with Beatle legend Paul McCartney as well.

The Fox breakout hit has already attracted some high-profile guest stars in its first season, including Broadway standouts Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, and actor Neil Patrick Harris.

The new season of Glee premieres Tuesday, September 21 on Fox.
