Bret Michaels on the Road and on the Mend

Spokeswoman says singer still suffers pain and memory loss

Bret Michaels is back performing and even eyeing a gig on "American Idol," but he's still not back to 100% after suffering a near-fatal brain hemorrhage in April.

"While Bret may be out on the road and performing, he is still not 100 percent," spokeswoman Janna Elias told People magazine. "He still has pain from the chemical meningitis, short term memory loss and gets fatigued quicker than normal."

The 47-year-old former Poison singer believes touring with his band band doesn't put his health at risk. Instead, he "simply feels that music is a powerful healer," added Elias.

The man who treated Michaels after the April 21 incident, Dr. Joseph Zabramski, marveled at the cowboy hat-wearing rocker's toughness.

"Between 15 and 20 percent of patients die as a result of the initial hemorrhage, and only approximately 50 percent of those that survive have a good outcome," said Zabramski, of the Barrow Neurological Institute. "Bret is truly one of the most determined individuals I have ever met when it comes to an attempt at making a full recovery.

Michaels told Parade magazine ealier this week that he is being given strong consideration to replace Simon Cowell  as a judge on "American Idol," a gig he said he would love to get.

“We have a meeting in L.A. in a couple weeks and we’re going to sit down and talk,” Michaels said. “(‘Idol’) did a poll and I think it was Madonna, P. Diddy, Howard Stern and myself, and I took 50 percent or 60 percent of the vote and that’s tremendous. I would love to be a judge on ‘American Idol.’ I think I would bring a lot to the table.”
