Angelina Jolie is known for her globe-spanning charity work, her brood of six multi-ethnic children, and her glamorous relationship with fellow A-lister Brad Pitt.

But as Jolie reveals in a new interview, she was once on a path to a much darker place.

"I went through heavy darker times and I survived them," says Jolie, in an interview with "60 Minutes" set to air this Sunday. "I didn't die young, so I'm very lucky. There are other artists and people who didn't survive certain things."

When pressed about what the "certain things" were, the Oscar-winning actress initially laughed it off, saying, "I was hoping you'd miss that" before saying, "[It's] nothing I want to go into a lot of detail about, but I think people can imagine that I did the most dangerous and I did the worst — and for many reasons I shouldn't be here."

Jolie had a reputation as a Hollywood wild child, after two failed marriages (one to her "Hackers" co-star Jonny Lee Miller and another to actor Billy Bob Thornton) and talk of her obsession with blood, cutting, and other bizarre fetishes.

"You think of those too many times where you came close to too many dangerous things, too many chances taken too far,"admits Jolie, whose debut directorial effort, the war drama "In the Land of Milk and Honey" opens next month. "I'm still a bad girl. I still have that side of me, It's just in its place now. It belongs to Brad. Or, our adventures."

The full interview will air on "60 Minutes" this Sunday at 7 PM ET on CBS
