Marlee Matlin to Speak at the Legacy of Women Awards Luncheon

Thursday, October 11

SafeHaven of Tarrant County is proud to announce their 20th Annual Legacy of Women Luncheon, which will be held on Thursday, October 11, at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

The Legacy of Women Awards Luncheon recognizes women who excel in the Arts, Business, Education, Health & Human Services and Volunteerism. This year’s keynote speaker is Academy Award winning actress, Marlee Matlin. Country and western singer, Laura Dodd, will perform an acoustic set.

“In 1993, Gov. Ann Richards hobbled in on crutches to headline the first Legacy of Women event.  For the first time ever, accomplished Tarrant County women were recognized for their successes and courage.  Twenty years later, there are still accomplished women who deserve public recognition and there are still victims of domestic violence who need the safety and hope SafeHaven provides.  This event and SafeHaven’s work is as relevant in 2012 as it was in 1993,” said SafeHaven CEO, Mary Lee Hafley.

SafeHaven of Tarrant County is a nonprofit organization that exists to end family violence through safety, support, prevention and social change. SafeHaven’s two emergency shelters, located in Arlington and Fort Worth, accommodate a combined total of 174 women and children. This makes SafeHaven of Tarrant County one of the largest shelters in Texas. If you, or someone you know, is in need of immediate assistance regarding domestic violence, please contact SafeHaven’s 24-hour toll-free crisis hotline at 1-877-701-7233.
