The show "American Idol" has donated tens of millions of dollars to charitable organizations.

An estimated 30.1 million people watched the season debut of "American Idol," making it the most-watched prime-time show of the TV season so far.

Nielsen Media Research said that audience on Tuesday night was down 10 percent from the 33.4 million who watched the season opener of the Fox network show in 2008.

The 37.4 million who watched the 2007 debut represents the series' high point.

    What the El!?! Editorial:

If you watched last night you know why ratings are down, cause it's BORING!

The new judge didn't add any spark at all. She had one exchange with Simon and it wasn't even heated.

And Paula was totally lucid, so there wasn't any "you look pretty" or "I love those shoes" feedback. Paula was actually saying constructive things.

All in all, Snooze-fest 2009. Even the bad singers were a re-rack of seasons past.

Seriously how many times can we see tone-deaf people pretend they didn't know they can't sing and then watch them cry in the arms of their family who apparently also didn't know they couldn't sing?

I can't sing, I don't pretend that I can, but I'll belt out a song in my car with the windows rolled up. I enjoy music, that doesn't make me a singer!

And another thing to consider, having guests like Kenny Rogers, Barry Manilow and Dolly Parton is not the way to get that coveted 18-24 demographic to watch.

How about Pink or Katy Perry, someone cool and relevant.

And let's talk about Ryan Seacrest, was it me or did he seem a little perplexed about Bikini Girl? That kiss was a little odd. Granted a stranger kissing you while cameras are rolling probably is weird, but he looked really uncomfortable.
