ZiPS Projections: Center Field

Dan Szymborski’s ZiPS projections are a good measure of what to expect from players in the upcoming baseball season. We'll take a look at the Rangers' projections on a position-by-position basis. Szymborski can be found on Twitter at @DSzymborski.

Today we'll look at the projections for the Rangers in center field, which is locked down by the frustratingly talented Leonys Martin, who the Rangers hope can take a step forward in 2015 in terms of consistency and production.

Martin: 516 plate appearances, 19 doubles, 6 triples, 9 home runs, 45 RBIs, .273 batting average, .325 on-base percentage, .397 slugging percentage, 28 stolen bases

The Rangers have been waiting for Martin to take that next step and realize what appears to be some pretty special talent. He has a decent amount of pop with the ability to steal 40 bases and score a ton of runs from the leadoff spot. A big issue for Martin is his plate discipline and his on-base percentage, especially if he's going to be a full-time leadoff hitter, which appears to be new manager Jeff Banister's plan.
