ZiPS: No. 2 Starter

ESPN's Dan Szymborski is a computer and stat guru, and we love getting a look at his projections. Here are his numbers for the 2014 Texas Rangers.

Position: No. 2 starter

Player: Matt Harrison, LHP

Last year: 0-2 record, 8.44 ERA, 12 strikeouts, 7 walks, 10 2/3 innings pitched

2014 projections: 4.12 ERA, 78 strikeouts, 111.1 innings, 9.23 hits/9 innings, 6.31 K/9 innings

At this point, it's hard to imagine what we can expect to get out of Harrison. He made just two starts in 2013 after earning the right to be the club's Opening Day starter with his stellar 2012 season. ZiPS projects Harrison to pitch 111 1/3 innings, which is about half of what the Rangers would expect from a perfectly healthy Harrison.

Right now, it's expected Harrison will miss his first turn through the rotation, and psosibly his second, but the Rangers expect him to be ready to go after that and it's hoped he will be the club's No. 2 starter with the Derek Holland injury.
