Yu Darvish Voted For Jake Peavey In Final Vote

It was announced Thursday that Darvish had made the All-Star team via the final vote

Yu Darvish said in the days leading up to the cut-off date for the 2012 MLB All-Star Game Final Vote that he didn’t believe he was deserving of a trip to Kansas City. Of course, the fans disagreed with him and it was announced Thursday that he had been voted in as the eighth Texas Ranger on the American League squad.

While Darvish is honored to have been selected by fans, he told reporters after learning the news that his vote went to Chicago White Sox starter Jake Peavey.

“I know that I mentioned not being worthy a few days ago,” Darvish said through an interpreter, per the Dallas Morning News. “But now that I’m selected, what it means to me now, is that if I get a chance to compete I want to put the best effort forward that I can. But, personally, I voted for Peavy.

“To be selected by the fans like this, it is very much an honor and I’m very appreciative of it.”

Manager Ron Washington, meanwhile, is less than surprised by Yu’s selection.

“I always thought he was an All-Star,” Washington said. “I’m very happy for Yu. I never really knew what the outcome of this [vote] would be, but I thought he had a pretty good chance.”
