Yorvit Torrealba Trying To Get Stronger At The Plate

Torrealba's defense, of course, is without question

Texas Rangers’ catcher Yorvit Torrealba has been having a great spring, defensively. As Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas notes today, he’s thrown out four of six would-be base stealers. But for now, his focus is at the plate. Torrealba is hitting .267 to this point.

"I think I'm trying too hard," he said, per ESPN Dallas. "My offense has been better in spring the last few years. I need to relax and not overswing."

Torrealba is one half of the platoon Texas used last season and hope to use again this year. The other half, Mike Napoli, had a sort of break-out year with the Rangers last year. He slapped 30 home runs while hitting .320 for Texas. But there’s no rivalry between the two.

"He had a great year and I hope he does again," Torrealba said. "I still have to go out there and do my thing and do my work no matter what. I'll prepare like I'm going to start all the time and then do whatever they need."
