Washington Sets Deadline for Pitching Roles

For some reason, the Texas Rangers are still throwing out the possibility that guys like Robbie Ross, Tanner Scheppers, and yes, even Michael Kirkman could end up in the team's starting rotation, whether they're true possibilities or not.

On March 20, all of those roles will be determined, Rangers manager Ron Washington said via The Dallas Morning News.

It makes good sense to have some sort of deadline in that regard to give guys like Scheppers and Ross, who have been stretched out so far this spring to start, time to get ready to throw on back-to-back days out of the bullpen, where they will almost certainly be.

“The choosing part, the players will determine that,’’ Washington told reporters on Friday. “We will tell them, whoever we decide is not going to be in that mix.’’

Ross and Scheppers should, without question, be back in the bullpen as it's one of the team's strengths and it's hard to envision taking one of your team strengths and turning it upside down.
