Wash on Hamilton: “If He's Ready To Go, I'll Put Him In There”

Josh Hamilton spent much of the weekend in the hospital with an intestinal virus

As you might have seen on this blog earlier, Rangers’ outfielder Josh Hamilton is back with the team after spending much of the weekend in the hospital with an intestinal virus. Hamilton, who was admitted to the hospital on Friday and released Saturday, was described by manager Ron Washington as day-to-day, but he made the trip to San Diego and may play in the series opener tonight.

If Hamilton feels well enough to go, that is.

"The last thing I want to do is wear myself out and have a full setback and have to drag this out longer than it needs to be," Hamilton said, per the Dallas Morning News.

Washington has no interest in rushing the American League-leader in All-Star votes, either. Whether Hamilton will play, Wash said, simply comes down to how he’s feeling at the ballpark on Monday night.

"He looks better," Washington said. "If he says he's ready to go [Monday], I'll put him in there. If he says he needs more time, then he'll get more time."
