Tolleson Set to be Activated Friday

Despite my greatest attempts at preaching logic and reason, it appears the Texas Rangers will activate Shawn Tolleson to their active roster in advance of Friday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners.

Tolleson, who was an elite setup man in 2014 and saved 35 games in 37 tries in 2015 just hasn't had it in 2016. It got so bad that after he blew a save in Oakland that led to a sweep by the A's, the Rangers demoted him in favor of Sam Dyson.

After the demotion, he had one good outing against the Angels, but then the next night came back and got rocked for three runs without getting an out. Then, he was placed on family emergency medical leave to care for his ailing father, who is battling cancer.

The logical thing to do with Tolleson, who has options remaining, would be to send him down to Triple-A to try to work out whatever is wrong with his game right now — most likely an ineffective change-up.

Instead, he'll be thrust right back into the Rangers' bullpen and at the expense of who? Luke Jackson? Time will tell, but we'll know soon.
