The Boedeker Diaries: Surprise, I'm Here!

Hopefully you guys can appreciate the forced Wade Phillips line in the headline in reference to my family's arrival in Arizona for Rangers Spring Training on Monday night, at about 10:30 p.m. local time -- or about five hours later than planned.

Thanks to an unfortunate tire issue in Albuquerque (where we stayed Sunday night), we were set back on our journey and instead of hitting the road around 11 a.m. for a nice little 6.5-hour drive to our friends' place in Glendale, we didn't leave until after 3 p.m.

But hey, on the plus side, I did go here before we left the ABQ.

So that was a nice consolation.

Anyway, it was a long night with a 2-year-old, but somehow, we made it, and now we couldn't be more excited to take in our first Spring Training.

You have to realize this, my daughter insisted on a Rangers birthday party for her second birthday. The wife and I tried to talk her into something more becoming of a soon-to-be 2-year-old girl -- princesses, heck even farm animals or dinosaurs.

Nope, she wanted Rangers.

The kid knows what she wants, and her favorite Ranger is Shin-Soo Choo, and she'll let you know that. We're hoping to meet her favorite player Tuesday when we head down the road 10 miles to Surprise to see Martin Perez take the hill against the Indians, one of Choo's former teams.

So anyway, I'll leave you now as we embark on our first appearance in Surprise, which I can't wait to see because I hear the stadium is really top notch as far as these Cactus League complexes go.

I'll try to check back in with more on our journey in the coming days.
