Texas Rangers' Home Opener: What to Expect

Baseball is back in North Texas.

The Houston Astros came to town for a three-game series against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park. The first pitch of the Rangers' home opener was set for 3:05 p.m. Friday.

The Rangers are 23-20 overall in home openers and 11-10 in openers at Globe Life Park. Last season's loss to the Philadelphia Phillies snapped a 5-game winning streak in home openers.

New Security

All fans will have to pass through metal detectors before entering Globe Life Park this season. Major League Baseball mandated metal detection screening before entering the ballpark this season.

United States Air Force Staff Sergeant Nicholas Bradley, who flew more than 200 surveillance missions in Iraq, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at 3 p.m.

In 2008, Bradley's vehicle was struck by an IED. Bradley has had 16 surgeries and continues to attend occupational and physical therapy.

Bradley currently attends the University of North Texas and is pursuing a degree in political science.[[299310751,C]]

New Food Options

Reporter Jeff Smith tries one of the new food options offered at Globe Life Park hours before the Rangers’ home opener.

Pitcher Derrek Holland's โ€œHolland Hot Tot-chosโ€ debut this year. The foot-long plate of spicy tater tots topped with grilled chicken or steak and peppers comes with a spicy queso hollandaise sauce in a mini Dutch oven.

There are also several options inspired by the State Fair of Texas, including chicken fried bacon.[[299310711,C]]
