Scheppers Healthy, Optioned to Round Rock

When Tanner Scheppers was put on the disabled list with knee inflammation after stinking up the joint at Globe Life Park and ruining Cole Hamels' Rangers debut, it seemed a little fishy.

With my own two eyes that night, I saw Scheppers blow up and then walk off the field just fine when he was removed from the game after blowing a lead in the eighth inning.

Whatever the case, Scheppers was activated from the DL on Wednesday and optioned to Triple-A Round Rock where he will try to work his way back to the Rangers' roster, even if it's just as a September call-up. He's not guaranteed that, despite his veteran status and his history of pretty good things for the Rangers.

It's clear this year that Scheppers just hasn't trusted his stuff and other than a stretch of about a dozen appearances, he had been flat-out bad. On the year, Scheppers is 4-1 with a 5.66 ERA in 35 innings.
