Rangers Taking Look at Lefty Reliever

The Rangers are looking desperately for help from the left side in their bullpen with pitchers and catchers set to report to spring training in just a couple of weeks.

There are several avenues they could take, but one is an in-house candidate who will be a non-roster invitee to spring training, Martire Garcia.

The 24-year-old pitched at High-A, Double-A and Triple-A in the Rangers system last year and fared pretty well for himself, compiling a 2.59 ERA and more importantly holding left-handed batters to a .200 average. Before that performance, Garcia served a 50-game suspension for PEDs early in the season.

If you remember, the Rangers' two top lefty relievers from a year ago, Robbie Ross and Neal Cotts, both struggled against lefties. The only lefties the Rangers currently have in the bullpen are Michael Kirkman, who's failed at every chance he's been given, and Alex Claudio, who's basically a lefty-on-lefty specialist but not much else.
