Colby Lewis is signed and sealed. Yu Darvish should be back in mid-May. And Cole Hamels is back.

Still, Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels said the search for starting pitching will continue into the Winter.

“If there’s the right deal, we’d still like to add to the rotation, more likely than not in the depth category,” Daniels said on MLB Radio over the weekend.

To me the Rangers’ rotation looks as strong as it’s been in years. With Darvish and Hamels at the front end, Lewis and Derek Holland Holland in the middle and guys such as Martin Perez, Nick Martinez, Chi Chi Gonzalez and Anthony Ranaudo battling for the fifth spot. But with Darvish, Holland and Lewis all coming off injuries and/or surgery, another arm certainly wouldn’t hurt the cause.

Texas has tinkered with the idea of bringing Cliff Lee back and young arms like the Rays’ Jake Odorizzi and Arizona’s Archie Bradley are reportedly available. The Rangers have trade currency in closer Shawn Tolleson. I’m just not sure – at this point, with this staff – they need to make another move for starting pitching.

And it’s been a long time since we wrote that sentiment.
