Rangers Release Hamilton after Another Knee Injury

Hamilton is a five-time All-Star and 2010 A.L. MVP

The chapter of Josh Hamilton playing in a Rangers uniform again in Arlington appears to be closed.

The Rangers have released the 35-year old outfielder from the minor league deal that was signed during the offseason.

Hamilton left Spring Training in February after feeling discomfort in his left knee during workouts and had surgery later that month in Houston. He was undergoing rehab when he injury his right knee, which will now require surgery.

The latest injury calls into question whether or not Hamilton can once again rebound from surgery and return to competitive play.

The 2010 American League MVP had reconstructive surgery on his left knee during the past summer. The Rangers released Hamilton and later resigned him to a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training. He had been working on switching from the outfield to first base.

Hamilton is in the final year of a five-year, $125 million contract he signed with the Los Angeles Angels after the 2012 season. The Rangers got him back in a trade with the Angels during the 2015 season.
