Derek Holland models a Texas Rangers jersey with the team's 40th Anniversary patch on the sleeve.
There's no doubt the past two years of Texas Rangers baseball have been the best of the franchise's existence.
With their first playoff series victory and two straight World Series appearances, the Rangers are in their prime right now, but there were 37 seasons before the two World Series appearances.
When the 2012 season gets underway, the Rangers will be celebrating their 40th anniversary with several announced plans to commemorate the occasion.
The Rangers will have a former player throw out the first pitch prior to every home game, which sounds a little extreme but will be a cool thing for longtime Rangers fans and will give us all the chance to see the likes of Mike Bacsik, Otis Nixon and David Hulse again, hopefully.
The Rangers will also announce an all-time Rangers team selected by fan balloting, which will be announced on Aug. 11.
There will also be a series of games played with throwback uniforms, which is something the Rangers have never been real big on but is always a fan favorite. There will also be throwback-themed giveaways to fans at those games.
The schedule of games with the throwback unis is as follows:
Saturday, May 12 vs. Los Angeles Angels—1974 white home uniform; Giveaway: 1974 Rangers Cap
Saturday, June 16 vs. Houston—1986 white home uniform; Giveaway: Nolan Ryan Retro T-Shirt
Saturday, July 7 vs. Minnesota—1994 white home uniform; Giveaway: 40th Anniversary Mug
Saturday, August 11 vs. Detroit—1976 powder blue home uniform; Giveaway: Powder Blue T-Shirt
