Rangers Prospect Leonys Martin Dealing With Thumb Injury

Martin is scheduled to meet with team orthopedist Keith Meister on Wednesday

After getting off to a hot start in 2012, Rangers’ prospect Leonys Martin is dealing with a thumb injury that may be more serious than initially thought. The AA Round Rock Express outfielder was forced to leave Tuesday’s game with what was thought to be a jammed thumb--no big deal.

But the Dallas Morning News’ Evan Grant is reporting that Martin is scheduled to visit team orthopedist Keith Meister on Wednesday to assess the severity of the injury--which sounds like it might be a bit of a bigger deal than a mere jam.

In 23 games this season, the highly touted prospect Martin is hitting .347--a team high for Round Rock and good enough for 15th best in the Pacific Coast League--with a .520 slugging percentage and a .423 OBP.
