Rangers Lose Myrtle Beach Affiliate

Myrtle Beach has been at the forefront of Texas Rangers fans' minds this season, thanks in large part to the Rangers' awful struggles and also because of the star-studded Rangers farm system that grabbed several national headlines.

The Rangers' top two prospects, slugger Joey Gallo and catcher Jorge Alfaro, both spent significant time with Myrtle Beach, the Rangers' High-A affiliate as part of the Carolina League.

Now both of those kids are hitting the offseason after finishing the 2014 year in Double-A Frisco, but the next round of big prospects will be playing somewhere other than Myrtle Beach after the Pelicans announced they'd reached an agreement with the Chicago Cubs to become a Cubs affiliate, ending their four-year relationship with the Rangers.

Oddly enough, former Rangers owner Chuck Greenberg owns the Pelicans and recently purchased the Frisco RoughRiders.

The Rangers are now searching for a new High-A affiliate and could end up joining forces with the Carolina Mudcats or extending their search to Florida for teams without affiliations at the moment.
