The Texas Rangers saw their pretty nice offensive streak come to a screeching halt on Monday night in the series opener against the Padres in pitcher-friendly Petco Park in San Diego.
The Rangers' offense had been on a pretty nice run as part of their red-hot August schedule, but they ended the month with a shutout loss at the hands of the Padres and their young star pitcher Tyson Ross, who tossed seven scoreless innings and even added to the fun with an RBI single of his own.
The Rangers managed only three hits — two from Elvis Andrus — and two walks while having to trim their lineup a bit thanks to NL rules and no designated hitter.
Ross is a big strikeout pitcher fanned seven Rangers on Monday night, and Tuesday's starter Andrew Cashner is a guy who can strike people out too, just not up to the standard of Ross. The Rangers might have to adjust their approach a bit on Tuesday, but don't expect them to be held to nothing again.
