Rangers Have Insurance on Darvish's Deal

There's a very good chance Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish misses the entire 2015 season, and that's a bad, bad deal for the Rangers.

There truly is no silver lining in that possibility, but there are a couple of things that slightly soften the blow.

First off, if he misses the 2015 season, it basically makes him being able to opt out of his deal after the 2016 impossible. Secondly, it could free up some payroll for this year if the Rangers do happen to compete for the first couple of months and are in position to make a move in July.

The Rangers have an insurance policy on Darvish's contract, as they do with several contracts, meaning they could be reimbursed anywhere between 50-75 percent of Darvish's 2015 salary, which was set to be $10 million.

The Rangers have a similar policy on Matt Harrison that has allowed them to recoup a significant chunk of his money since he signed his big deal prior to the 2013 season and has since made six starts with his future completely up in the air.
