Rangers Hand Out New Deals

The Texas Rangers extended offers to several pre-arbitration eligible players on Monday, highlighted by last year's breakout setup man Tanner Scheppers.

Scheppers received a $515,179 deal for 2014 from the Rangers, according to The Dallas Morning News, while several other players received deals between the big-league minimum of $500,000 and $503,000.

Those players include prospects Wilmer Font, Luis Sardinas and newly acquired Michael Choice, as well as bench possibilities Engel Beltre and Jim Adduci.

Scheppers emerged onto the scene in 2013 after years of promise that was never fulfilled as the hard-throwing righty began to put some movement on his previously straight high-90s heat. He went 6-2 with a 1.88 ERA in a setup role and enters spring training as a possibility to either start, close or return to his setup role, which is the most likely.
