For those who don't remember, Jamey Wright was a "good" pitcher for the Rangers back in the day when a "good" pitcher for the Rangers was anyone who could post an ERA under 5.00.
Now, the Rangers are bringing back the 40-year-old veteran on a minor-league contract with an invite to big-league spring training.
Wright went 5-4 with one save and a 4.35 ERA 61 appearances (one start) last season with the Dodgers. He has made at least 60 appearances in four straight and six of the last seven seasons. His first season of that stretch came with a career-high 75 appearances for Texas in 2008, which was a club record for a right-handed pitcher until Tanner Scheppers’ 76 games in 2013.
With the Rangers' youth and amount of unproven arms in the bullpen right now, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Wright to make the big-league club for Opening Day. He has a career 4.81 ERA over 19 big-league seasons.
