Rangers Add Lefty Reliever

With Robbie Ross potentially set to replace Derek Holland in the Texas Rangers' starting rotation for at least half the season, the Rangers have added another left-handed reliever to potentially replace Ross in the bullpen.

After signing Rafael Perez earlier this month, the Rangers claimed Pedro Figueroa off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays, who claimed him from Oakland earlier this month. Figueroa has just 24 major-league relief appearances in his career, but could be a short-term replacement should Ross be shifted to the rotation until Holland returns.

Figueroa is a hard thrower but is also erratic and has more walks than strikeouts in his big-league career, so that's never a good thing.

It's not likely he'd beat out Perez, who has some pretty accomplished big-league seasons under his belt, but it can't hurt to have more reinforcements.
