In an ongoing series, we'll take a look at possible free-agent and trade targets for the Texas Rangers this winter.
Target: Phil Coke, LHP
2014 stats: 5-2, 3.88 ERA, 41 strikeouts, 20 walks, 1 save, 58 innings pitched
Coke has been a big part of the Tigers' bullpen for the past five seasons, but more in the way of quantity than quality. Last season was only his second season of posting a sub-4.00 ERA as he helped piece together a Tigers' bullpen that was the shakiest part of the club last season.
Pitching from the left side, Coke could fill in the void that Robbie Ross' trade left — a middle-inning reliever who is capable of getting one or two outs, or going two innings. He's basically an average big-league reliever, but he is a groundball pitcher so that would play nicely for the Rangers.
