After Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington unexpectedly resigned on Sept. 5, it was thought the all-time wins leader in franchise history could end up in Houston thanks to his close relationship with Nolan Ryan, who's now in the Astros' front office after his bitter breakup with the Rangers.
After Thursday's unexpected news that the Rangers had hired their new manager, and it wasn't Tim Bogar, a Rangers coach is heading to Houston even if it's not the one we thought it'd be.
Gary Pettis, the longest tenured member of the Rangers' coaching staff, having served as outfield coach, baserunning coach, first-base coach and third base coach, will join the Astros' coaching staff, according to The Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant, and will not be a part of new Rangers manager Jeff Banister's staff moving forward.
There's one created opening for Banister to fill before he even gets on the job, and you have to wonder how many others Banister will create when he arrives.
