Perez Looking to Continue Streak in Series Opener

Martin Perez has made eight starts since returning from Tommy John surgery back in July, and with the exception of one horrendous outing against the New York Yankees, he's been pretty fantastic considering the track record of Tommy John patients early in their return.

The 24-year-old lefty has been really solid since that outing, and in his five August starts never allowed more than three runs in any one of them.

Perez had four quality starts (minimum six innings, maximum three earned runs) of his five in August, and the one that didn't qualify was when he allowed three runs in five innings against Detroit, when he didn't have any of his good stuff and was fortunate to limit the damage like he did by pitching out of jams.

Perez can make a big statement for the Rangers' stretch run with a good outing on Friday in Anaheim against an Angels team that is fighting for its postseason life with a lineup that's currently featuring a slumping Mike Trout — always a welcomed sight for any pitcher.
