In a season-ending countdown, we'll weigh in on the six most disappointing Rangers in what was arguably the most disappointing season in franchise history.
No. 6: Michael Choice, OF
2014 stats: .182 batting average, six doubles, triple, nine home runs, 36 RBIs, on stolen base in 86 games
Choice was traded from Oakland to Texas over the winter for Rangers fan favorite Craig Gentry with the thought that Gentry had reached his ceiling as a fourth outfielder and Choice had a much higher ceiling as a possible corner outfielder of the future for a team looking for at least one corner outfielder, especially in 2015 and beyond. All we got from this Choice campaign was that we know Choice can't be counted on solely in that role moving forward.
If you look at Choice's minor league numbers in Oakland's system, he showed the ability to be a pretty versatile offensive player with good power and the ability to be a better than average outfielder for a long time to come. Now, he has a long way to go before he can be relied upon as even a platoon outfield option. You'd have to think Choice will start the season in the minors, no matter what the Rangers decide to do with their outfield situation.
It's definitely not time to give up on the soon-to-be 25-year-old yet, but the season was definitely a disappointment after a stellar spring training.
