Moreland Set to Return Wednesday

Mitch Moreland was one of the team's few hot hitters a few weeks ago before the calendar turned to May, the Rangers heated up a bit and before he hit the disabled list with an elbow injury that required a minor surgical procedure.

Through the first few weeks of the year, Moreland was batting over .300 — the only such player on the roster at the time other than Prince Fielder.

Moreland went 0-for-11 on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock but did draw four walks and said he feels good with his return looming Wednesday night against the Royals.

"I feel good," he told Fox Sports. "The elbow's been great. The legs feel good."

Prince Fielder played first base Tuesday night for the first time in May but will likely defer back to Moreland against right-handed pitcher Yordano Ventura, as Moreland is the best defensive first baseman the Rangers have.

If Moreland can pick up where he left off, he'd be an attractive option in the fifth spot in the lineup behind Adrian Beltre.
