Former Rangers starter Brandon McCarthy entered Thursday's start against his former — albeit briefly — team with six straight quality starts under his belt and a very solid sub-3.00 ERA.

Mitch Moreland put an end to that as the Rangers first baseman continued his hot hitting as of late with two home runs — one to right, and one to left — and three RBIs off McCarthy and was the only Ranger who could seem to get any good wood on McCarthy's offerings.

Moreland is now hitting .350 in May and .429 over the last week while being used primarily against right-handed pitchers, as was evidenced when he was lifted late in the game after the A's brought in a lefty out of the bullpen.

That means Moreland will likely sit tonight when the Rangers travel to Houston for the Silver Boot as the Astros will throw out solid lefty Wandy Rodriguez, but he will be a valuable piece off the bench under National League rules.
