Philadelphia Phillies ace Cliff Lee, a lefty, has been officially named the starter when the Phillies visit Globe Life Park for Opening Day on March 31, so there's a chance left-handed hitter Mitch Moreland, a likely platoon DH, would not be in the lineup for the game.
Now, it seems the lefty-lefty matchup won't be the only reason if Moreland is out of the lineup, as the Rangers' DH/first baseman/outfielder could miss a few games to start the season after suffering an oblique injury in Monday's Cactus League game against the Kansas City Royals.
Moreland was playing left field and made a really weak throw to second, which seemed a bit odd. Turns out, he left the game after two innings and went to the training room to tend to the oblique tightness. On Friday, teams can begin putting players on the 15-day disabled list. If the Rangers decide to DL Moreland, he could return for the Rangers' fifth game of the season in Tampa Bay on April 5 and would miss the opening three-game set against the Phillies.
