Mitch Moreland Reaches McCovey Cove

On Saturday, Mitch Moreland became the 34th person to ever record a "splash hit" in San Francisco

Saturday’s Rangers-Giants game in San Francisco was a rough one to watch if you’re a Rangers fan, but if you stuck around long enough--and if you did, you deserve a medal or something, because, oy--you got to see Mitch Moreland join the exclusive “Splash Club.”

Pinch hitting in the eighth, Moreland took Ryan Vogelsong’s offering deep over the right field wall and into McCovey Cove. It was the first ever pinch hit “Splash Hit” by an opposing player, as well as the first of the season. Moreland is just the 34th person to ever reach McCovey Cove.

It’s pretty cool,” Moreland said afterward, per the Dallas Morning News.

Moreland will come into the team’s series with Arizona riding a bit of a hot streak. Over the last three games, Moreland is 4-for-8 (though he did strike out three times on Sunday), a stretch that has raised his average by more than ten points.

As of Monday, Moreland is hitting at a .277 clip with nine home runs and 21 RBIs.
