Michael Young Wants You To Appreciate How Good Yu Darvish Is

Darvish has a 1.80 ERA in the month of September

If you’ve watched the Rangers in the past few weeks, you know that Yu Darvish has been spectacular. Michael Young just wants you to know how spectacular he’s been.

Darvish is now 16-9 with a 3.90 ERA on the year, which is good, but isn’t really reflective of how good he’s been since the calendar turned from August to September. To wit, in 30 innings this month, Darvish has surrendered just 11 hits and 7 runs, only 6 of which were earned. That’s a 1.80 ERA, and Young believes that what we’re seeing out of the 26-year-old Japanese national is special.

Yu has just been awesome,” Young said, per the Dallas Morning News. “I hope people are appreciating what they are seeing, because rookies don’t usually get stronger as the season goes on. It’s usually the other way around. Guys are running on fumes as the season is ending. Not Yu. He’s getting stronger and better. He’s just been rock solid.”

Indeed he has, and though the praise of Darvish in the Rangers’ clubhouse (justifiably) doesn’t end there, don’t expect Darvish himself to boast much. Asked about his success of late, Darvish only said, “I’ve just been lucky. I don’t know any other reason.”
