Mazara Adds to Legend with Monstrous Blast

Nomar Mazara is clearly the front runner for AL Rookie of the Year honors, and if he can finish the job after his hot start, he'll be the first Ranger to win the award since 2010 when Neftali Feliz saved 40 games as a rookie and earned the nod.

It seems with each passing day, Mazara continues to show what makes him the best rookie in the league through the first 39 games of his career. Granted, he's still got a ways to go, but he doesn't appear to be regressing. If anything, the recently turned 21-year-old is only getting better.

On Wednesday, he did something to top anything he'd done up to that point when he crushed his second homer in as many days into the upper deck in right field. But this one was different. It traveled 491 feet according to Statcast, which would make it the longest home run hit in the big leagues this year.

Because of the new technology, the Rangers couldn't confirm it was the longest homer ever hit in Globe Life Park, but it's one of a couple with the only one seemingly challenging being one Josh Hamilton hit in his prime that went upper tank and to the section closest to center field. That one was measured at 490 feet.

Whatever the case, it was really, really far.

Mazara is now batting .320 with a .365 on-base percentage and .865 OPS with a team-high eight home runs and 21 RBIs.

The Dallas Morning News ran an interesting comparison on Thursday with Mazara's performance in his first series against a team and then again in his subsequent rematches. This was the third time he's seen the Angels in a series, and he torched them in the three-game set.

As a whole, he hits .323 and has five homers with 10 RBIs in his first look at a time. In subsequent rematches, he's batting .316 with three homers and 11 RBIs. So teams might be getting a book on Mazara, but clearly it isn't doing much for their favor.
