Martinez Looking to Continue Hot Start

If you would've told us in March that Nick Martinez would be the best starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers two weeks into the season, we would've laughed and bet the farm against it.

And now, we'd look stupid and be homeless.

Martinez is 2-0 in two starts with a pristine 0.00 ERA, having allowed just one unearned run in 14 innings of work. He's doing it with efficiently and with the help of his defense by pitching to contact, and inducing weak contact over and over again.

He's looking to continue his hot start Tuesday night in Arizona against the Diamondbacks, a team he's never faced.

He's worked seven innings in each of his two starts this year and has yet to throw 100 pitches in a game, and the two teams he's beaten have been division rivals in Oakland and Los Angeles. The Rangers brass repeatedly said last year that they were infatuated with Martinez and his approach to the game at such a young age, as well as his ability to shake off a rough outing and bounce back nicely. This year, so far, there has yet to be a rough start to worry about, and Martinez looks like a much more confident pitcher than the one who was prematurely rushed to the bigs last year and posted a 4.55 ERA in 24 starts.
