Martinez Looking to Build on Last Outing

Nick Martinez did something last week that he'd previously never done in his short big-league career.

Though he didn't make it through the sixth inning of the Rangers' 2-1, 14-inning loss in The Bronx, Martinez did register his first scoreless start of his career, even if it did last just 5 1/3 innings on an economical 67 pitches.

Martinez had spent the previous 20 days on the disabled list, and was on a short leash. When Ron Washington and Mike Maddux noticed his mechanics slacking a bit, Washington went and got him before things got ugly, or worse, he hurt himself again.

On Tuesday night, Martinez will make his second start since his return from the DL, and he'll do it against that same Yankees team, but this time at home in Arlington. Last week against the Yankees, he allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out three.
