Martin Out With Tight Hamstring

The plan coming into the 2013 season for the Texas Rangers was to platoon Craig Gentry and Leonys Martin in center field.

The Cuban prospect has started to show the promise the Rangers have seen in him in the minor league system as an on-base machine with a really mature offensive game and some work to do defensively, even though he's made some great plays in center.

Martin has been on a tear at the plate this spring, hitting .381 with an on-base percentage of .480 and a .571 slugging percentage with two doubles, two triples, two stolen bases, four walks and four strikeouts in 25 plate appearances.

Now, Rangers fans must hope Martin isn't on the shelf for too long after he was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Chicago Cubs with a tight left hamstring. He's currently listed as day-to-day.

Gentry could take advantage of this and put himself in the spotlight after having a great spring so far himself with better numbers than Martin in seven fewer plate appearances.
