    Dave Magadan, 2014 Texas Rangers

Just a few years ago, Dave Magadan was the hottest name on the hitting coach market in professional baseball after his successful run as the Boston Red Sox's hitting coach and their patient approach at the plate that was made famous by the great New York Yankees teams in the recent past.

Now, a major chunk of Texas Rangers' fans are unhappy about the fact that new manager Jeff Banister has decided to keep Magadan on board after meeting with him Thursday in Arizona. Magadan had been in discussions with the Yankees, New York Mets and Oakland A's for their vacant hitting coach jobs, but ultimately decided to stay on with Banister and honor the final year of his contract.

The Rangers have worked under Magadan for the past two years after his successful stint with the Red Sox, and they've struggled in those two seasons at the plate, perhaps due to approach but more likely due to a lack of firepower (2013) and injuries (2014).

It'll be interesting, and telling, to see what Magadan can do in 2015 with a more powerful lineup that is actually healthy. If the Rangers' bats falter again, it might be time to find a new hitting coach.
