If the Rangers are indeed looking for more outfield help with the thought that Josh Hamilton's knee injury might be worse than initially feared, there is a pretty appealing player that is suddenly on the market, and could be had for cheap.
Austin Jackson, a DFW-native who graduated from Denton Ryan High School as a two-sport star (baseball and basketball), was put on waivers by Seattle and cleared through, meaning he can be dealt to any team but must be dealt before Sept. 1 to be able to play in the postseason for a contender.
The Rangers already acquired Will Venable and recently signed Drew Stubbs to a minor-league deal, but Jackson would be a nice addition as a plus defender and a guy who's been a good hitter in the past despite the fact he's struggled since being traded from Detroit to Seattle last year in the big three-team trade for David Price.
Fox Sports' Jon Morosi reported that several teams were showing interest in Jackson and it seems likely he'll be traded in the next couple of days because of his cheap rate ($1.75 million over the remainder of the year) and the fact he's a true rental with a really nice glove and a good history at the plate despite his struggles this year.
