JD: Profar Could Be in Outfield Mix

At this point, the Rangers are going into the 2016 with the thought that former MVP Josh Hamilton is their starting left fielder with the knowledge that they'll have be easy on him and let him take a day off fairly regularly to protect his ailing knee and any other assortment of injuries he might run across at any given moment.

Behind Hamilton, left field is a wide-open mess, featuring the likes of Ryan Rua, Justin Ruggiano, Patrick Kivlehan and possibly even top prospects Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara at some point later in the season.

But there's one forgotten prospect who could also get in the mix in left field, and it's Jurickson Profar, who just a few years ago was the consensus top prospect in all of baseball but has missed the entirety of the past two seasons with a lingering shoulder injury that finally required surgery.

Profar tried the outfield in 2013 but didn't feel comfortable and quickly moved back into the infield. At Rangers Fan Fest this weekend, general manager Jon Daniels said the team hasn't given up on the idea of Profar in left field considering Elvis Andrus has shortstop locked down and with the emergence of Rougned Odor at second base.

"Jurickson Profar is a shortstop, but we have a shortstop," said Daniels, alluding to Elvis Andrus, to the Dallas Morning News. "But if we get to the middle of the year and (Profar) can deal with it and we need his bat up here ...."

As Daniels' trailing off says, the possibilities are endless and wide open.
