Holland Optimistic He'll Make Next Start Sunday

Dutch Oven slowed by stomach bug

Texas Rangers starter Derek Holland went through his normal workout routine Wednesday, saying he expects to make his next turn in the rotation Sunday at San Francisco despite being slowed by a puzzling stomach virus.

Holland has lost about 15 pounds in 2½ weeks since coming down with the bug, which caused him to fatigue during the Rangers' 6-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.

He is taking antibiotics and says he feels stronger despite weighing only 202. His system is beginning to normalize.

Texas manager Ron Washington expects Holland to be re-evaluated before doctors determine if he needs to undergo further testing, such as for a food allergy or other issue.

Holland recently cut out dairy and eggs.
