Hamilton's Father-in-Law Turns Down Rangers Offer

The Texas Rangers are returning to square one in their search for an "accountability partner" for slugger Josh Hamilton.

The Rangers had announced earlier this month that it was hiring Hamilton's father-in-law, Michael Dean Chadwick, as a special staff assistant to travel with the slugging outfielder. Chadwick was to succeed Johnny Narron as Hamilton's support after Narron left to become Milwaukee's hitting coach.

On Monday, however, the Rangers disclosed that Chadwick had decided against accepting the position due to "family considerations."

According to a team statement, Hamilton and the Rangers "have started to consider other options but nothing has been determined as of yet."
