Hamilton on Contract Talks: “I'm Not Going To Let It Be A Distracton”

Josh Hamilton isn't worried about contract talks getting in the way of his focus

As you might’ve noticed, Josh Hamilton’s historic, 5-for-5, four home run performance against Baltimore the other night has reignited the discussion surrounding the slugger’s contract, but Hamilton isn’t worried about the talk getting in the way of his focus.

Hamilton told reporters Wednesday that his performance against the Orioles Tuesday and the very loud debate it has sparked won’t change his approach any.

"I'm not going to let it be a distraction for me," Hamilton said of the contract talks, per ESPN Dallas. "I'm going to keep trying to play good and put up good numbers and do what I can. I think they kind of want to see things play out and see me be healthy and play and all that."

Texas GM Jon Daniels, meanwhile, says there is no news to report.

"There's nothing new to say about the situation," Daniels said. "We want Josh to remain a Ranger for a long time, and he's expressed that the feeling is mutual. Beyond that, we are not going to discuss any potential negotiations, with Josh or other players."
