Outfielder Josh Hamilton anticipated being in the lineup for the Rangers on Monday night as they start a three-game series against the San Diego Padres, but manager Ron Washington had other plans in mind.

Washington kept Hamilton out of the lineup as a precautionary move. Hamilton missed the Silver Boot Series against the Astros this weekend after being hospitalized for an intestinal virus.

Hamilton was with the team in Sunday's finale against Houston but did not participate in team activities.

While Hamilton is not in the lineup Monday night, Washington did say Hamilton would be available to pinch hit if necessary. Hamilton participated in workouts Monday and is expected to start Tuesday night.
