If the Texas Rangers are going to make noise in September and October into the postseason, they're going to have to get the type of performance they thought they were trading for when they acquired Cole Hamels at the trade deadline.

True, the Hamels deal was done with the future in consideration more than anything, but now that the Rangers are currently sitting in a playoff spot, they need him to pitch like a No. 1, and so far he hasn't.

In his four Rangers starts, Hamels has posted a 4.73 with a 1-1 record as the Rangers have gone 2-2. His earned runs allowed in those four starts? He's allowed five, then four, then three, then in his last outing against Detroit, only two.

So if math tells us anything, it's that he'll give up just one run on Friday night against Baltimore and zero in his next outing in his hometown of San Diego.

The Rangers need a stellar outing from Hamels on Friday against a Baltimore team that, while struggling, is loaded with dangerous hitters who are bound to go off at any moment.
