Gallo Heading to Instructional League

Now that the Frisco Roughriders are eliminated from the Texas League postseason, Joey Gallo is looking for some more baseball to play.

Despite clamoring from clueless Rangers fans, the team didn't even consider a September call-up for the 20-year-old power-hitting phenom and instead will send him to Arizona for some Instructional League action in a talent pool full of Class-A and Double-A talent.

In a bit of a surprising move, the Rangers aren't going to ask Gallo to play in the Arizona Fall League, but you have to figure they probably want to give him a true offseason of rest even though it'd be a good continuation of progress for him.

Gallo showed prodigious power this year by slugging 42 home runs over High-A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Frisco while earning MVP honors in the Carolina League, which he was promoted out of in June, and making the Texas League all-star team.

His strikeout numbers sky-rocketed after his promotion to Double-A, which was probably a big reason why he was never seriously considered for a September call-up and that'll give him something to work on at length in Arizona.
